Full-Motion Chief

Full-Motion compensation for floating offshore operations

MC130 Flyer Balancer

Next-generation motion compensator with high-efficiency design, reducing height, weight and cost. Actively corrects heave, surge, and sway, primarily aimed at floating installation vessels.

How it works

Full control in all directions, with safe passive support

Building on our patented Balanced Heave Compensation technology, we've developped the Full-Motion Chief: a 3-DOF motion compensator that delivers full-spectrum control in heave, roll and pitch - with perfectly balanced, adjustable tension troughout its full stroke.

Through coordinated mechanical actuation at it's three arms, the system compensates for motion acreoss the X, Y and Z axes, while the load remains safely supported by the balanced passive hydraulic system. This allows the 3D Chief to effectively counter both single- and double-pendulum swing behaviour, on top of heave motions.

Like its Heave Chief brothers, the Full-Motion Chief is able to fast lift 100% of its safe working load (SWL), prevent re-hits, control your DAF below 1.1. and actively follow vessel motions.

Ideal for floating crane hooks (e.g. TP installations) and fast-lifting components from heaving decks (e.g. WTG or monopile feedering), the 3D Chief brings a new level of control, precision and safety.

Type of operations

Floating installation

Floating installations

With the Full-Motion Chief, any load can be held still, relative to a fixed object, even when the crane hook of the floating vessel is moving up and down. The machines can handle vertical displacements of up to 4m with a speed of 1m/s. Depending on the vessel and heading, this allows you to work in seastates up to Hs 3.5m.

It can be used to place transition pieces onto monopiles, secondary steel structures, modules onto topsides, or even complete topsides

Floating to floating lifts

Floating to floating lifts

Using our Full-Motion Chiefs, we can simultanously compensated moving crane hooks (see 'floating installations'), while matching the 3-DOF motions of a moving target. For example floating installations onto floating turbine foundations. Our small motion reference unit (MRU) container, placed onto the target, will sends its movements wirelessly to our Heave Chief, which is automatically following these motions ('Follow-mode').
