Heave Chief

In-line active heave compensation

The Heave Chief is our flagship machine: perfect Active Heave Control, available for any standard heavy lifting hook. Battery powered, floating to floating, floating to fixed, and fixed to floating transfers.

How it works

Lifting WTG components from a feeder barge

Full control by mechanical actuation with safe passive support

Based on our patented Balanced Heave Compensation technology, we've built a heave compensator with perfectly adjustable tension control, constant over its full stroke.

It is able to fast lift 100% of its safe working load (SWL), prevent re-hits, control DAF under 1.1. and actively follow any barge motions.

It's available for keeping loads still in a floating crane hook (e.g. TP installations) or to fastlift components from a heaving deck (e.g. WTG or Monopile feedering)

Types of operations

Floating installation

Floating installations

With the Heave Chief, any load can be held still, relative to a fixed object, even when the crane hook of the floating vessel is moving up and down. The machines can handle vertical displacements of up to 3,5m with a speed of 0,9m/s. Depending on the vessel and heading, this allows you to work in seastates up to Hs 3.0m.

It can be used to place transition pieces onto monopiles, secondary steel structures, modules onto topsides, or even complete topsides

Heave Chief feeder lifting

Feeder barge lifting

The Heave Chiefs can safely fastlift any delicate component off deck of a moving supply vessel or barge, at high speeds sufficient to prevent any re-hit with the deck. At the same time, we can ensure your dynamic crane load (DAF) will remain lower than 1.1 or even 1.05 if needed. We can uptimize your crane capactiy, while keeping your cargo and crew safe, and lifting efficient and swift.

Floating to floating lifts

Floating to floating lifts

Using our Heave Chiefs, we can simultanously compensated moving crane hooks (see 'floating installations'), while matching the motions of a moving target. For example floating installations onto floating turbine foundations. Our small motion reference unit (MRU) container, placed onto the target, will sends its movements wirelessly to our Heave Chief, which is automatically following these motions ('Follow-mode').
